Solar Costs Less Than You Think.

Most people are surprised. You are already paying for power every month — and going solar is often more affordable than the bill you already have.

The only way to know is to look at your own bill with someone who will tell you straight.

Incentives

What your utility still pays for.

Which programs apply comes down to who sends your power bill.

SMUD battery rebate

Sacramento County. My Energy Optimizer Partner+ pays a one-time $300 per kWh of eligible capacity, up to $6,000 per household, for a qualifying battery paired with solar. Enroll within 90 days of permission to operate and stay in for three years, with ongoing payments for grid events on top.

SMUD also buys excess solar at 9.6¢ per kWh, any hour of the day, on its Solar and Storage Rate.

PG&E areas: store it, don't sell it

PG&E has some of the highest electric rates in the country, so solar pays back faster here than almost anywhere — but under its net billing, exported power earns very little.

A battery lets you spend your own solar from 4 to 9 PM. Programs tied to PG&E's Emergency Load Reduction Program pay about $2 per kWh sent back during grid emergencies.

Income- and fire-zone programs

SGIP's Residential Solar and Storage Equity path reaches up to $1,100 per kWh of battery and $3,100 per kW of solar for income-qualified households when both go in together.

In Tier 2 and Tier 3 High Fire-Threat Districts, Equity Resiliency reaches up to $1,000 per kWh and often covers 80–100% of the battery. Funding is limited and waitlists are common.

Questions

Straight answers before you call.

How much does solar cost?

It depends on how much power your home uses and what your roof looks like. We build your number from your last 12 months of bills, then show you the design and the pricing in writing. The quote is free and there is no pressure at the end of it.

Do I really need a battery with my solar?

You do not need one to make power, but it is where the savings sit now. SMUD buys extra solar at 9.6¢ per kWh and PG&E pays very little for exported power, so keeping your own energy for the 4–9 PM stretch is worth more than sending it out. A battery is also the only way to stay on during an outage.

Will my solar work during a power outage?

Only with a battery. Panels by themselves shut off when the grid goes down. Pair them with an Enphase or FranklinWH battery and your lights, fridge, Wi-Fi and medical devices ride through it — and with the right size, your air conditioning too.

What warranty do I get?

Premium panels carry a 25-year manufacturer warranty and Enphase microinverters the same. The battery is covered 10 years by its manufacturer. On our side, solar workmanship runs 10 years and roof workmanship 10 years. See the full table ›

Do you handle permits and the utility paperwork?

Yes, that is our job. We pull the building permit, file the interconnection application with your utility, and meet the inspector at the end. You sign a few things; we do the filing and the chasing.

Do you offer financing?

Financing available (on approved credit). During the free quote we walk through the options with you so you can weigh a monthly payment against the power bill you already pay. More on financing ›

Is the federal solar tax credit still available?

Not for a purchase. The 30% federal credit for purchased home solar ended December 31, 2025. Some third-party-owned programs — a lease or a PPA — can still apply a federal credit through 2027, so ask us while we are going over your options.
